As Cains, we have heard the word of God over and over but our emotions control our way of reasoning and actions too. We think we are good but we hate correction and hate people who are better than us. We have no fear of God in our lives and we say anything to God because of our traumas. We have encouraged ourselves to live the way we believe that we are living our truth. Thus atheist. We want to serve God but on our terms. We have no reverence for God even in his presence. Our sins are haunting us and we think everyone is after us and we are comfortably living in our consequences because we do not want to repent.
God is still asking?

6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
