friends to friends.
Who are your friends? Who has heard of a phrase saying tell me your friends and I will tell you who you are. I will say no but rephrase it and say “tell me your friends and I will tell you how they have molded the way you think, act, or perceive things.” Treat people the way you want to be treated. This is also another way of safe guarding your relationship with God and yourself. At different stages in life, we usually find people and we either conform to their way of living and if we seem powerful, we conform them to our way of living. I remember a time in my life I wondered why people had best friends because I could not even manage to get one who had my way of thinking. Am not bragging but I was and am not that kind of girl who breaks rules for my muse rather I used to break them when there is abuse. Not anymore as long as it’s not a sin. So, making friends who kept rules was hard to do. So, one day I met this Christian girl whose life was not perfect and since our lives were both in emotional turmoil, I labelled her immediately ” my best friend” I remember she introduced me to this church where I personally begun my relationship with Jesus Christ and little did, I see her compromise in her relationship with God by marrying a non-Christian man and this threw me off. she is no longer my best friend just because of compromise. I really needed a friend where we can cry together, trust God together, but I realized this journey, I will lead it alone with the Holy spirit. Am not saying that I do not love people but getting too personal with someone means no compromise, we are taking the high road.
let’s give an example of Amnon’s friend who enticed him into raping her sister Tamar. These kinds of friends are easy to find. They think everything is a joke. They do not feel anything towards someone they are throwing off the right course.
king Solomon’s son, Rehoboam’s friends who made him lose some of the tribes of Israel because of wrong counsel. people come into our lives either to add, subtract, multiply or divide. It’s you to observe their fruit because you let them into your personal space.
Let’s find Jesus’s course during his time on earth. Jesus Christ called his disciples, they never called him, just like we should first assess how we are of use in somebody’s life or them in ours. By this I mean Jesus Christ brought them unto his team by assessing their situation and the position of their hearts before placing them into his life. He knew he would change them because he lived in the presence of God just as David was so close to God that God even referred to him as a man after his own heart. David had a lot of dysfunctional counterparts in his wilderness when he was being chased by king Saul. But his time walking in the fear of God, leading him in the presence of God changed many people he was with, they never influenced him otherwise. For example, those men who tried to make him kill king Saul, he had the right reasons but he exactly refused because of his fear of God. Jesus Christ was not afraid to call out the spirit that spoke in one of them by saying get behind me Satan rather than going along with their mindset. Later they learnt a lot and he promoted his disciples to friends because he knew they would be useful in the kingdom of God, to themselves and many other people to this day. And take this he never denied them the agape love from the day he met them to the day he made them his friends until today. John 15:15
